Extensive Library Roof Work Over the Next Month Shouldn't Disrupt Patrons
The New City Library has posted an update on the work to be done on 7 of its 8 roofs.

The Oct. 14 update from New City Library Director Mitch Freedman includes several key points about the roofing project about to start. Most reference concerns expressed about the asbestos removal signs:
- 7 of 8 roofs will be replaced
- The work should take about 3 weeks
- Rain would cause delays
- There is asbestos embedded in glue used to seal the periphery of the old roofs
- The roofing material including that glue will be removed in chunks
- There are two barriers between the roof and the interior of the library so no debris will come in
- Debris will travel through plastic drop cloths into a dumpster
- The company and crew doing that work are certified for asbestos removal
- The new glue used to seal down the new roofs will smell but has no harmful fumes. It meets all the new state standards.
