Fired Condors Coach Hired By New York Sharks

Four days after being fired from his head coaching job with the Condors Swim Club, the New York Sharks announced the hiring of .

Wagner, who filed a lawsuit against the Condors and the organization’s founder Robert Carlucci and current president Joseph Patrick Carlucci for improper compensation and defamatory remarks, also challenged a clause in his employment contract that restricted future employment.  According to one parent who attended a court hearing in White Plains on Tuesday, the temporary restraining order sought by the Condors was not granted.

The restrictive clause would prevent him from coaching swimming for two years within a 50-mile radius of the Condor’s New City office or within the borders of the counties where members come from or the club does business. The listed counties were Rockland, Orange, Bronx, Queens, New York, Brooklyn, Nassau, Putnam and Westchester and Bergen County, NJ.

 According to the statement from the Sharks, Coach Wagner joins the current Head Senior Coach John Alaimo as co-head coach. They will share responsibility for the Senior 1 Group at Rockland Community College (RCC).

“Coach Wagner comes to the New York Sharks with an impressive resume and an incredible amount of experience: He is the former Head Men’s and Women’s Coach at the University of Alabama and Head Women’s Coach at Texas A&M, was six-time U.S. National Team Coach, and to top it off, he coached Janet Evans to the 800m Freestyle World Record in 1989.”

The co-head coaches oversee the New York Sharks program of swim lessons, age group programs at South Orangetown Middle School and North Rockland High School and the senior program at RCC.

One former parent said swimmers from about nine families left that organization and followed Wagner to the Sharks.
