Thunderstorm, Flood Advisory For Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester

Heavy rain along a line of thunderstorms

The National Weather Service warns of a line of strong thunderstorms moving east at 25 mph.

Rainfall rates of 1/2 to 1 inch per hour are occurring with this activity, which may cause localized flooding for the morning commute. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

In addition, the NWS has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Rockland and Westchester counties as well as New York City and northeastern New Jersey.

The advisory lasts until 10: 30 a.m.

* At 725 AM EDT, An area of heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms will cause urban flooding in the advisory area.

* Rainfall rates of around 1 inch per hour have been observed. Excessive runoff from this heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Newark, Jersey City, Yonkers, Paterson, Elizabeth, New Rochelle, Flushing, Passaic, Bayonne, White Plains, Wayne, Mott Haven, Hoboken, Plainfield and Bloomfield.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
