'Guilty': Jury Convicts Ramapo Man In Case Involving The Rape Of An 8-Year-Old Girl

The case started when the small child told her mother that she had been subjected to vaginal sexual abuse and sexual intercourse.

NEW CITY, NY — A Rockland County man's unspeakable acts of sexual abuse against a child could mean life in prison.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that 55-year-old Byron Guiterrez-Rosil, of Chestnut Ridge, was found guilty today in Rockland County Court after an eight-day jury trial.

Guitierrez-Rosil was charged by indictment with two counts of predatory sexual assault of a child; two counts of first-degree rape; two counts of first-degree sexual abuse; and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts.

"I praise the young victim in this case for having the courage to confront and testify against her abuser," Walsh said. "My thoughts and prayers remain with her, and the strong survivor that she is, as she continues to recover from the defendant's heinous crimes. I commend the efforts of the law enforcement personnel and prosecutors who worked tirelessly on this case to achieve justice for the victim. My Office remains committed to prosecuting those offenders who prey on children and subject them to such horrific abuse. My office will always fight for justice on their behalf to protect all children."

On Sep. 2, 2025, the eight-year-old child informed her mother that on two days during the proceeding summer, July 19 and 20, while at Guitierrez-Rosil's home, he subjected her to vaginal sexual abuse and sexual intercourse.

Following the verdict, Guiterrez-Rosil was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 7.

Guitierrez-Rosil faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years to life and a maximum of twenty-five years to life in prison for his convictions of predatory sexual assault against a child.

The investigation was conducted by the Ramapo Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Supervising Assistant DA Gerard Damiani III and Senior Assistant DA Brittany Richardson.
