Hoehmann Withdraws From State Senate Race
"I have literally been overwhelmed by residents asking me to reconsider my decision to run," he said Wednesday.

NEW CITY, NY — George Hoehmann has withdrawn from the race for State Senate in the 38th District. The Clarkstown town supervisor was the Rockland Republican Committee's choice to run for the seat being vacated by Democrat David Carlucci, who is running for Congress.
Hoehmann jumped into the race in mid-February.
"I was deeply humbled and honored when the Republican Party nominated me to run for the New York State 38th Senate District with the goal of bringing much needed change to our state," he wrote Wednesday morning on Facebook. "Although there are many reasons why it makes sense for me to run for the Senate, my heart remains here in Clarkstown.

"Over the past several weeks, I have come to realize that our mission here is not yet complete and this fact has been brought home to me in a very personal way. I have literally been overwhelmed by residents asking me to reconsider my decision to run for the state senate and urging me to continue leading Clarkstown.
"Based on these facts, I have therefore made a decision to withdraw my candidacy for the New York State Senate and remain here in the town I love. That decision has been made with the full support of my family. Together we have concluded that our hearts and priorities are here in Clarkstown, where thousands of other families are counting on keeping town government moving in the right direction."

The oddly-drawn 38th Senate District includes most of Rockland County plus Ossining, across the Hudson River in Westchester County.
A 22-year-old Suffern resident, Matthew Weinberg, is working to get on the ballot in the June 23 GOP primary.
There are four Democrats headed to a primary: Clarkstown Town Clerk Justin Sweet, Spring Valley Trustee Eudson Francois, Ossining Zoning Board member Tony Martinez, and Nyack Trustee Elijah Reichlin-Melnick.
