Homes Evacuated Friday Due to Natural Gas Line Break in Valley Cottage

Two homes were evacuated during lunchtime Friday on Christian Herald Road in Valley Cottage following a natural gas line break, according to Clarkstown Police.

No injuries were reported, and the homeowners were out of their homes for about an hour or so while repairs were made. The road was closed between Mountainview Avenue and Route 9W, but other homes in the immediate area were unoccupied at the time so additional residents did not need to be evacuated.

Police said the break of the line occurred when a private contractor working on the line accidently struck the pipe.
