Hudson Valley Forecast: Hazardous Outlooks Issued

Thunderstorms are the threat. Here are the details.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued hazardous outlooks across the region.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties: Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon into tonight. There is also a marginal to slight risk for severe thunderstorms Wednesday into Wednesday night ahead of a cold front. The main threat would be damaging winds of 58 mph or greater.

In addition to the severe weather potential, locally heavy rain could cause ponding of water on roadways and standing water in low-lying areas. Isolated to scattered flash flooding may occur if
thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas.

"Stormy conditions are anticipated to agitate Atlantic waters along the East Coast of the U.S. later this week and this weekend," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Meanwhile, the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season continues to run well ahead of the average pace, though behind 2020. An average hurricane season produces 14.4 named storms, Sosnowski said. "The season is just past the halfway point, and already 14 named tropical storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes (Category 3 or stronger) are in the books for 2021."
