JAMCCAR Celebrated Its 31st Anniversary

(SPRING VALLEY, NY---August 4, 2021) JAMCCAR CELEBRATED ITS 31st ANNIVERSARY AND JAMAICA'S 59th YEAR OF INDEPENDENCE WITH FLAG RAISING CEREMONY, AND CO-HOSTED WITH THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF JAMAICA, NEW YORK, A MEET AND GREET RECEPTION WITH THE JAMAICAN DIASPORA IN ROCKLAND COUNTY FOR SENATOR THE HONORABLE LESLIE CAMPBELL, MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND FOREIGN TRADE.

Hon. Alan Simon, Village of Spring Valley Mayor, and the Jamaican Civic and Cultural Association of Rockland, Inc. (JAMCCAR) celebrated the 59th Year of Jamaica's Independence with a Flag Raising Ceremony at the Spring Valley Village Hall on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021. In attendance were Rockland County Elected Officials, JAMCCAR’s Executive Board of Directors, Community Leaders, and fellow Jamaicans, dressed in their black, green, and gold attire to proudly mark the occasion. Each person was given a commemorative Jamaican flag.

Shortly afterwards, many travelled to the Nyack Seaport Restaurant, where JAMCCAR, at the request of Consul General Alsion Wilson, OD, co-hosted a "MEET AND GREET " Reception to welcome Jamaica's Delegation which included, Senator the Honorable Leslie Campbell, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Consul General, Ms. Lottalee Paisley, Vice Consul, Ms. Iyeeka Walters, Vice Consul, and Mr. Seneca Forch, Community Relations Officer.

JAMCCAR’s President, Hope Wade offered words of welcome, which were followed by an address by Consul General Alsion Wilson, highlighting the theme, "STRONGER TOGETHER".
A captive audience of several Rockland County Elected Officials included State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, Hon. Ed Day, Rockland County Executive, Assemblyman Mike Lawler, Hon. Alan Simon, Mayor Village of Spring Valley, Mayor Don Hammond, Village of Nyack, Rockland County Legislator, Hon. Toney Earl. Also in attendance, were many community and business leaders, including the Hon. Vincent HoSang, OJ, OD and Caribbean Food Delights, CEO, Sabrina HoSang- Jordan.

The Honorable Leslie Campbell, with responsibility for Diaspora affairs, gave a very stimulating address, which explored opportunities for meaningful partnerships between the Jamaican Diaspora and Jamaica's national development efforts. A spirited Q and A segment subsequently ensued.

The event was a resounding success, and was punctuated with Proclamations, Citations, and Certificates of Merit and " Public Service " Commemorative Plaque Awards from JAMCCAR.
The afternoon ended with a surprise tribute to Hon. Vincent HoSang, OJ, OD who was celebrating another significant birthday.
