Judge Commits NY Homeless Man Convicted In Fatal Stabbing Of Library Worker

The man has been committed to the care of the New York State Office Of Mental Health.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A homeless man who was due to be sentenced for the 2020 fatal stabbing of a library security guard is being sent to a state mental health facility.

Blanchard Glaudin, 31, in December 2025 pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Rockland County Court for the killing of Sandra Wilson, a security guard at Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley.

On Thursday, Judge Djinsad Desir determined Glaudin lacks the capacity to understand court proceedings, including a sentencing hearing, as a result of his mental disease.

The judge ordered Glaudin to be in the custody of the Commissioner of the Office of Mental Health for treatment in one of the state’s psychiatric facilities.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said prosecutors had recommended that Glaudin be sentenced to between 25 years and life in state prison.

“Although sentencing did not proceed as scheduled, this individual will not be returning to our streets,” Walsh said. “The defendant will remain confined in a secure facility where he cannot pose a danger to others.”

By pleading guilty, Glaudin admitted to the February 18, 2020 attack, according to Walsh. It happened inside the library around 2 p.m. According to prosecutors, Glaudin stabbed Wilson with a knife multiple times in her chest and body, causing her death.

Police at the time said Glaudin stabbed Wilson after she told him to turn his music down.
