Legislator Aney Paul Opposes Clemency of 1981 Brinks Robbery Defendant

Convicted Murderer of Two Nyack Police Officers and Brinks Guard Requests Governor to Commute Sentence

New City, NY (December 8, 2014) – Rockland County Legislator Aney Paul sponsored a resolution to oppose clemency for the getaway driver in the 1981 Brinks Robbery that resulted in the murder of Nyack police officers, Sgt. Edward O’Grady and Officer Waverly Brown and Brinks guard Peter Paige. The resolution was approved by the Legislature at the December 4th meeting.

Judith Clark, a member of a radical group that planned the robbery to fund revolutionary activities, has appealed to Governor Cuomo for clemency. Clark was convicted in 1983 of six counts of robbery in the first degree and three counts of murder in the second degree for the shooting deaths of the three men and was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences. She is presently housed at Bedford Hills Correctional Center.

“Judith Clark demonstrated no remorse during the trial and in the years following her conviction,” said Legislator Paul. “What occurred on that day will never go away for Rockland County and the pain and the loss experienced by the families of the three men can not be erased. Clark participated in the murder of three innocent people as part of a terrorist plot and we should not negotiate with terrorists. “
