Local Under 12 Rowdies Ranks 3rd in Nation

Their undefeated record is 32-0-2

Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of the most dominant teams in the world of soccer. Real Madrid has played 15 games so far this season and only allowed 13 goals; Barcelona has played 16 and only allowed eight. Impressive? Sure. But one Rockland team is respectfully rolling their eyes.

The Under 12 North Rockland Rowdies girls played 34 games and scored 101 goals in 2011. They allowed only two goals and posted 27 straight shut outs on their way to a 32-0-2, undefeated record. The Rowdies are currently ranked No. 3 in the nation on gotsoccer.com.

“We’re very fortunate to have allowed only the two goals,” said Head Coach Neil Blutig. “The girls work extremely hard. They never cease to amaze me. They always come up big. “The squad of young ladies, most of who have played together for a number of seasons, won all four of their ranked events."

On Sept. 3, the girls claimed the NJSA 04 Ultimate Cup. On Oct. 8, they were crowned champions at the CT Football Club Premiere Columbus  Day Tournament 2011. On Nov  12, they lifted the U12 MAPS 2011 Cup. Finally, on Dec. 2, they were the last team standing at the end of the Annadale Premier Cup 2011–Girls Weekend.

“The most important thing is that they all love each other,” said Blutig. “Since day one there has never been a negative said from one kid on this team to another. It’s harmonious and it’s a lot of fun. We hope the spring will be just as good.”

“Most of the girls are from New City and the Stony Point area. They are off through the new year but we are excited to pick things up for the tournaments in the spring season.”

The New City girls’ softball team thrust themselves into the nation’s view by reaching the Little League World Series. The North Rockland Rowdies also grabbed the nation’s attention by registering an unbelievable year and finished the 2011 campaign ranked third in the nation.
