Man Accused of Abusing Congers Boy Found Guilty of Predatory Sex Assault

Rockland County DA Thomas Zugibe announced the verdict this afternoon.

A Middletown man has been convicted on three child sex abuse counts in connection with a young boy in Congers, the Rockland County District Attorney announced today.

Patrick Crowe, 36, was found guilty of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a class “A” Felony; Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony; and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Misdemeanor.

“The defendant might have escaped punishment for his depraved acts had his young victim not bravely testified about his attacker’s abusive and manipulative behavior,” Zugibe said.

The abuse was repeated and took place inside a private home at 47 Water’s Edge in Congers between January 2010 and August 2012. The defendant was known to the victim, who was allowed to testify by live video feed because he has Asperger’s Syndrome.

Crowe faces 25 years to life in prison; he will be sentenced June 2.

Here’s the DA’s complete statement:

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced that Patrick Crowe (DOB 02/18/79) of 206 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York has been found guilty following a jury trial of:

• One count of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a class “A” Felony

• One Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a class “B” Felony

• One count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Misdemeanor

“The defendant might have escaped punishment for his depraved acts had his young victim not bravely testified about his attacker’s abusive and manipulative behavior,” said District Attorney Zugibe. “The jury has spoken and the defendant now faces a considerable prison sentence. Sadly, the consequences of such molestation for the victim are profound and may result in emotional trauma from which he may never fully recover,” said Zugibe.

District Attorney Zugibe said that, according to trial testimony, Crowe repeatedly molested the young boy between January 2010 and August 2012. The defendant, who was known to the victim, sexually abused the victim beginning when he was eight-years-old, inside a private home at 47 Water’s Edge in Congers.

The young male victim, who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, testified before the jury by way of closed circuit television. The District Attorney’s Office Special Victim’s Unit successfully made a motion to qualify the child as a vulnerable witness, allowing the victim to testify outside of the courtroom via the live video feed.

Crowe, who remains held without bail, faces up to 25 years to life in state prison when he is sentenced on June 2, 2015.
