Meet K9 Peyton, Rockland County Arson Expert
Each year billions of dollars in property and numerous lives are lost as a result of intentionally set fires, said Sheriff Louis Falco.

NEW CITY, NY — Sheriff Louis Falco introduces one of the tools that the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office uses to investigate suspicious fires and help combat arson.
K9 Peyton is a 2-year-old female lab mix rescue dog. K9 Peyton and her handler Deputy Robert Moger received training through the State Farm Arson Dog Program, which is provided at no cost.
Each year billions of dollars in property and numerous lives are lost as a result of intentionally set fires. Accelerant detection K9s are trained to sniff out minute traces of accelerants such as gasoline, lighter fluid etc. that may have been used to start a fire. K9s possess capabilities that humans cannot duplicate. An average dog’s nose is tens of thousands of times more sensitive to odors than a human nose. Accelerant detection K9s are another tool to locate evidence at a fire scene and help bring arsonists to justice.
