More Accolades For The Clarkstown Softball All-Stars
Softball World Series fifth place finishing team receives congressional proclamations.
The New City Little League Softball All-Stars are enjoying the continuing celebration of their fifth place finish at the Little League Softball World Series earlier this month. On Friday, they received congressional proclamations. Congresswoman Nita Lowey (NY-18) presented the certificates of appreciation from the United States Congress at Strawtown Field in New City.
“Coming in fifth internationally is extraordinary,” said Lowey. “I was so thrilled to present proclamations to this extraordinary team.”
The congresswoman congratulated each of the nine of the 13 team members attending the ceremony and asked what position they played. Lowey also thanked their coaches and managers and parents for their commitment and contributions to the team's success.

She asked what the team’s best and least favorite memories of the World Series were.
“The best experience was meeting all the girls from all the different teams,” said Jayde Mark as her teammates agreed. “And the worst experience was losing when we knew we could have won.”

The girls are humble about their achievement. Manager Mike Herskowitz thinks they have not yet fully realized what they achieved by being ranked fifth in the world. He is relishing the experience.
“They really just looked at each game as its own standalone entity and never really looked back at their whole body of work and achievements,” he said. “Once we got out to Alpenrose and Portland, OR where truly the best teams in the world were there and they treated us like Olympic athletes and royalty, it really sunk in. For someone who is a volunteer coach, you just hope to get a nice group of kids that you’re going to work with and to teach them how to play that game. And this year it was just a dream come true.”
The accolades continue with the team’s recognition at a future New York Yankees’ game, by the Rockland County Legislature on September 6 and the Clarkstown Town Board within the next few weeks.
Other officials attending the event included New City Little League President Lon Hoffstein, Rockland County Legislators Ed Day and Harriet Cornell Clarkstown Town Supervisor Alex Gromack, Town Council Members Shirley Lasker, Stephanie Hausner and Frank Borelli and Town Clerk Justin Sweet.
