NCLL Softball Team Falls To Pennsylvania In Eastern Regionals

Second loss for state championship team, which faces Delaware on Wednesday.

The state champion New City Little League 11-12 softball team dropped to 1-2 in Little League Eastern Regional Tournament play on Monday with a 3-2 loss to Pennsylvania, even though the team’s pitching only gave up two hits.

New City next faces Delaware on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Bristol, CT.

Pennsylvania took off with an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and neither side posted a run for the next two innings. New City struck back in the fourth inning with a run and then again with another run to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning.

New City could not score in the sixth inning and Pennsylvania won the game with a run scored in the bottom of the sixth. New City had four hits in the game, with three errors. Pennsylvania was held to just two hits and committed three errors.

New City’s Gianna Lia struck out five batters and gave up seven walks. Pennsylvania’s pitchers struck out two and gave up two walks and four hits.

New City’s Deana Prochnau, Jamie del Rosario, Carli Solieto and Sarah Herskowitz each had one hit. Madison Borenkoff and Taylor Adolff each had an RBI.

New City defeated Maryland, 1-0, on Friday but fell to New Jersey, 7-3, on Sunday.
