NCLL Softball Team Has First Loss In Eastern Regional Tourney
New City falls to New Jersey, 7-3; N.Y. state championship team set to face Pennsylvania team today.

The state champion New City Little League 11-12 softball team had it first lost in the Little League Eastern Regional Tournament Sunday, falling 7-3 to New Jersey.
New City is now 1-1 in the tournament and is slated to play Pennsylvania at 4 p.m. today in Bristol, CT.
Sunday’s game started off with New City taking a 1-0 lead in the top of first inning and then expanding its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning. But the New Jersey team, from East Windsor, struck back with a second run in the bottom of the fourth and then went ahead with a five-run fifth inning.

New City went scoreless in the sixth inning. New City finished the game with three hits and one error, with the New Jersey squad getting nine hits and making three errors.
New City’s Sarah Brauer pitched five innings, striking out two batters and giving up six walks. New Jersey’s Angela Giampolo struck out six and walked two batters.

New City’s Deana Prochnau got three hits with Jamie del Rosario getting the team’s other hit. Brauer and Sarah Herskowitz each had one RBI.
