NCLL Softball Team Takes First Game In Eastern Regionals

Girls beat Maryland, face New Jersey on Sunday.

The New City 11-12 year old softball all star team, which has already
won the County, Section and State Championships, proved that they are
hungry for more after a 1-0 victory against Maryland in their first
round Mid Atlantic Regional group game in Bristol, CT, on Friday.

Sarah Brauer pitched all six innings. Brauer struck out nine, issued no
walks and only allowed two hits in Friday’s victory.

“Our pitching has been dominant, especially Sarah today,” said Manager
Mike Herskowitz. “We really have some aces that can take the mound for
us. Sarah is one of them and she did a really great job out there for
us today.”

The only run scored came off the bat of Sara Herskowitz drove in Jamie
del Rosario. Brauer needed nothing more.

“The team has really been able to get the big hits when we need them,”
said Mike Herskowitz.

Their next tilt is against New Jersey on Sunday in Bristol, which is home to Little League's Easter Regional Headquarters. If they continue
winning they could qualify for the Little League World Series in less
than a week and the team is confident that they have what it takes to
compete with any squad out there.

“We’re at least as good as every other team here,” said Mike Herskowitz. “I think that if the girls play their game, they have as good of a chance or better of making it to the Little League World Series.”
