Needles, Drug Baggies Found Behind Backstop on New City School Field
The paraphernalia was found by some children, Clarkstown police said.
NEW CITY, NY — Hypodermic needles and baggies of a suspected narcotic were found Thursday evening behind the baseball backstop at the Woodglen Elementary School upper field. The Clarkstown Police Department responded to a call by residents about it at 6:30 p.m. The paraphernalia had been found by some children.
The school is at 121 Phillips Hill Road in New City.
Responding officers were directed to a wooded area behind the backstop. Officers were able to retrieve the needles and some baggies that appear to be a narcotic, police said. The children were unharmed and did not require medical attention. The parents of the children were at the scene. The Clarkstown School District was notified and will be conducting a thorough sweep of the school grounds today to ensure no other needles were present.

The Clarkstown Police Street Crime Unit will conduct surveillance of the school grounds and patrol units will increase their presence in the school area as this investigation continues.
Police remind parents to teach children that if they encounter needles or what appears to be drug paraphernalia to stay away from the objects and notify their parents or the police.
