New Baseball Stadium Officially Opens

With the cutting of the ceremonial red ribbon, Provident Bank Park, home of the Rockland Boulders baseball team, has opened.

Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence and team owners welcomed fans to the new stadium in Pomona at a 5:30 p.m. ceremony in advance of the first home game of the Boulders, which is set to start at 7:30 p.m.

The stadium's 5,000 seats are sold out for the Can-Am League game against the Brockton Rox.

St. Lawrence heralded the opening of the stadium, located just off Route 45, as testament to the resolve of the community, business and area union workers to come together on a project that he contends will be a boost to the local economy.

"This beautiful Provident Bank Park stands as a testament to the resolve and the endurance of the American worker," said St. Lawrence, who worked with team owners to make the new stadium possible.

Surrounded by public officials, team officials and ticket-holders waiting to get to their seats, St. Lawrence said the new stadium will serve as proof for years to come that Rockland County was able to create a major new attraction despite one of the worst economic declines.
