Diabetes is a disease in which blood glucose ( sugar) levels are above normal. Most of the food we eat is turned into glucose for our bodies to use for energy. The pancreas, an organ that lies near the stomach, makes a hormone called insulin to help glucose get into the cells of our bodies. When you have diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in your blood.

“If left undiagnosed or untreated, diabetes can lead to serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke,” said Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, Rockland County Commissioner of Health. Our trained facilitators will help you gain the skills you need to better manage your diabetes and improve the quality of your life.”

The group provides a place where mutual support and success can help build your confidence in your ability to manage your health and maintain an active and fulfilling life. Space is limited - call 364-2501 today to reserve your spot.
