New City Election Results 2016: Town Board; State Senate, Assembly; County Judgeships

NEW CITY, NY — Registered voters in Clarkstown chose candidates for president and vice president, United States senator, state Supreme Court Justices and representatives to U.S. Congress, state Senate and state Assembly, as well as county judges and Clarkstown town council.

With all districts counted in Clarkstown as of 2 a.m., Daniel Caprara won with 20,966 votes, compared to 15,677 votes for Adrienne Carey, according to unofficial results from the Rockland County Board of Elections.

With 38 of 112 election districts counted in Assembly District 97, incumbent Ellen Jaffee had 8,593 votes and Joseph S. Chabot had 3,251 votes, as of 11:46 p.m., according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections.

In Assembly District 98, with all districts reporting at 2 a.m., Karl Brabenec defeated Aaron Wieder, according to unofficial results from the New York Board of Elections. Brabanec received 27,266 votes to Wieder's 18,846. Wieder received more votes in his home county, 5,705, while Brabenec picked up 2,915 in Rockland.

In the 99th Assembly District, with 100 percent of the vote in, incumbent Democrat James G. Skoufis defeated challenger Republican Colin J. Schmitt 27,501 to 24,960. Schmitt was narrowly favored in Rockland, picking up 3,661 votes while Skoufis received 2,681 from Stony Point voters. Vote totals are unofficial until certified.

In the 39th Senate District, with 100 percent of the votes counted, incumbent William J. Larkin Jr. defeated Democrat Christopher W. Eachus 61,496 to 44,640.

In the race for Rockland County Court Judge, with 63 of 277 districts counted, two have pulled ahead in the four-way race for two seats, according to unofficial results from the Rockland County Board of Elections.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer is the projected winner in his re-election campaign, with 77 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections at 9:45 p.m.

The key to party affiliations: D = Democratic, R = Republican, C = Conservative, WF = Working Families, G = Green, IND = Independence, LBT = Libertarian, WEP = Women’s Equality Party and REF = Reform.

For President of the United States

The candidates for president and vice president are Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence, Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine, Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld and Green Party Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka.

For U.S. Senate

New York’s senior Senator Chuck Schumer (D) faces three challengers: Wendy Long (R), Alex Merced (L), and Robin Laverne Wilson (G).

For United States Congress

In District 17, which covers Rockland County and central and northern Westchester County, incumbent Nita Lowey (D) is unopposed.

For New York State Senate

State Senate District 38 is mostly in Rockland County with a bite out of Westchester; it includes all the communities in the towns of Clarkstown, Orangetown, Ramapo and Ossining. Incumbent David Carlucci (D-IND-WEP) faces Thomas DePrisco (R-C-REF).

State Senate District 39 includes Haverstraw and Stony Point in Rockland County and the rest is in Orange County. Christopher W. Eachus (D-WF-WEP) is challenging incumbent William J. Larkin, Jr. (R-IND-REF-C).

For New York State Assembly

In Assembly District 96, which includes parts of Clarkstown, Haverstraw, Orangetown and Ramapo, incumbent Kenneth P. Zebrowski is running unopposed.

NY Assembly District 97: This district in Rockland County includes the villages of Nyack, Piermont, South Nyack, Spring Valley, Suffern and the unincorporated communities of Blauvelt, Hillcrest, Monsey, Nanuet, Orangeburg, Pearl River, Sparkill, Tappan and Viola. Incumbent Ellen Jaffee, on the Democratic and Working Family party lines, faces a challenge from Joseph S. Chabot on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform party lines.

NY Assembly District 98 includes Orange and Rockland counties. In Orange: Towns of Greenville, Minisink, Warwick, Deerpark, including Port Jervis, Monroe and Tuxedo. In Rockland: Northwestern part of the Town of Ramapo. Aron B. Wieder (D-C-G-IND) is challenging Karl Brabenec (R-Tax Cuts Now).

Assembly District 99 covers Blooming Grove, Chester, Cornwall, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Highlands, New Windsor, Wawayanda and Woodbury in Orange County and Stony Point in Rockland. Colin J. Schmitt (R-C-IND-REF) is challenging incumbent James G. Skoufis (D-WOR-WEP).

For Rockland County Court Judge

County Court judges serve 10-year terms. Four people are running for two positions: Kevin F. Russo (D-G-WF), Larry J. Schwartz (D-C-WF-IND), Patrick J. Loftus (R-C-G-REF) and Howard Gerber (WEP-REF).

For Clarkstown Town Council

The seat up for election is now held by Adrienne Carey, a Nanuet resident appointed to the post in June after Valerie Moldow resigned. She seeks voter approval. Opposing her is Daniel Caprara of New City.
