Cohen said the league initiated the fall ball instructional program in 2011 with rookie girls and this year is expanding it to include rookie boys. This spring enough softball players signed up to double the number of rookie softball teams from two to four.
Girls who are five or six years old by December 31, 2012 are eligible for the clinics. Boys who will be seven years old by April 30, 2013 are also eligible to participate. The one-hour clinics begin in September and take place through mid October. The cost of the six clinics is $65.

For youngsters who want to sign up for Fall Ball, the cost is $100. New City Little League teams will play interleague with other District A teams in the county. Cohen said the league expects to field between 30 and 35 fall teams with players from rookie status to senior level.
In the spring, the league enrolls between 600 and 700 children who play on 59 baseball and softball teams. The expansive program has 29 directors on its board.
