New City Little League Softball Team Captures Sectional Crown

Squad moves on to state tournament hosted by South Orangetown Little League.

There doesn't seem to be any stopping the New City Little League 11/12 girls softball All Star team.

After winning the District 18 title in Rockland County, the team on Saturday captured the sectional crown and is now moving on to the state softball championship tournament.

New City defeated Kensico, 14-1, in Beekman, NY, earning them a trip to the state tournament, which is hosted by South Orangetown Little League in Orangeburg. New City has its first game set for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Saturday's win was another team effort with every player getting at least one hit. Reese Guevarra had 3 hits, 2 RBIs and ran her pitching record to 7-0. Sara Herskowitz had 3 doubles and 3 RBis and Deana Prochnau and Madison Borenkoff each had 2 hits.

Carli Solicito made some nice defensive plays and Taylor Adolff made the game ending play. Kaylie Dymek had 2 hits for Kensico.
