New City Mets Win Girls Softball Tournament of Champions

New City Little League team stops Stony Point Yankeees, 11-0.

The New City Mets went off and defeated the Stony Point Yankees, 11-0, to win the girls softball Tournament of Champions Tuesday night at the Haverstraw Little League's Leo Lader's Post 130 American Legion Memorial Field.

“I’m so proud. Some of these girls have such a tremendous work ethic,” said New City Little League team manager Frank Borelli. “They’re very talented, but they really work at playing the game and that makes the difference. We’ve been playing good defense and our bats came alive.”

“Coming into the game, I was really exhausted from the day today,” said satcher Sara Herskowitz, No. 32. “But I got more and more comfortable out there. I saw a pitch I liked and hit the sweet spot. I’m just really proud of my team.”
