Nyack Boys Lacrosse Tops Clarkstown North With Dominant 18-2 Victory

The still undefeated Nyack cut short a two-game hot streak for the Rams.

The Clarkstown North Rams boys lacrosse team's winning streak was cut short by the still undefeated Nyack, which came out on top with a dominant 18-2 victory Friday.

The Indians scored half of their points in the first, with one coming in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth.  The Rams scored their only two of the game in the fourth.

The Indians controlled the game throughout as they outplayed the Rams on both ends of the field with their superior size, speed and execution.

“I thought it started right off on the face-offs,” said Nyack’s head coach Eamon Depeter.  I think we did pretty well on the ground balls, kept it on the offensive end, we got some good looks and we finished it.  It all comes down to ground balls, if we control the ground balls and keep it on our offensive end then it’s a lot easier to score that way.”

As Depeter pointed out, the deciding factor was the Indians' ability to control the ground balls and keep the ball on the offensive end, thus giving them their 28 shots on goal while not allowing the Rams the opportunity to score.  What was particularly impressing was the Indians play-making and ball movement on the offensive end.

“In the first four games, this is probably the best that we’ve moved the ball,” said Depeter.  “Our offense is still kind of gelling right now and I still think that we can get much better offensively.  We’re excited about the next few games and getting back out there and proving ourselves.”

Though the Rams showed a lot of heart as they played hard straight through to the end, they were unable to match up against the Indians.

“They’re really good and I told these guys, if we played them a hundred times, I think they would beat us a hundred times,” said North’s head coach John Fitzgerald.  “They’re fast, they’re strong and they’re aggressive.  They were better than us and that’s it.  We tried our best, we really played hard, but they’re better than us.”

The Rams finished the night with just eight shots on goal.  Though they scored two in the fourth, overall, the Rams were unable to break down the Indians impressive defense when they did get possession of the ball.

“They were fast and we just couldn’t run with them,” said Fitzgerald.  “They were fast and they moved the ball.  They moved the ball quickly and they made a lot of really good plays and they put it in the cage.”

Nyack’s senior midfielder Anthony Accardi and senior attacker Evan Ramos led all scorers with four goals a piece.  North’s  junior attacker Vincent Barbetto and senior attacker Gerard Damiani had one goal a piece.  Nyack improves to 4-0 after the game while North falls to 2-4.

North plays next at Albertus at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.  Nyack plays next at home against Scarsdale at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
