Nyack Pulls Away To Defeat Albertus Girls Lacrosse, 20-13
Despite a great game by Falcons, they couldn't take home a win without their injured goalie.
Albertus Magnus girls lacrosse played an exciting match against the Nyack Indians on Monday afternoon.
The Falcons stepped up and played an excellent game against the talented Indians, who are nearly flawless this season with a record before the game of 12-1-1. With their record of 3-10, Albertus was clearly an underdog going into the match.
Their goalie was injured and so sophomore Glynnis Widmer, who does not normally play the position, had to step in to take her place. The Indians experienced attackers had little difficulty in scoring on the inexperienced goalie, which makes the final score of 20-13 Nyack an impressive accomplishment for the Falcons nonetheless.

The first quarter started off with four goals in five minutes from Nyack. The Falcons retaliated with two goals of their own while keeping Nyack scoreless for over ten minutes. Despite their best defensive efforts, the Falcons couldn't stop the aggressive onslaught of the Nyack offense.
The Indians attacked the goal in waves of three or four, cutting through any gaps in the Falcons defense. Though Albertus was often able to stop the first or second cutter, the third or fourth would get the open shot on the goal. Though Widmer put up a valiant effort, the experienced attackers on the Indians were able to capitalize on her inexperience as goalie. As a result, Nyack was able to score six more goals in under ten minutes to end the first quarter.

Due to the Falcons offensive effort, they were able to remain in the game with the Indians. Despite their impressive showing, they could only score one goal to each of the Indians two. This left the Falcons with a high but surmountable deficit at the half, with the Indians leading them 10-5.
The Falcons cranked it up a notch offensively in the second quarter. They controlled the draw well, though they had some difficulty hanging onto the ball due to Nyack's scrappy defense. For the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Falcons were on their way to a comeback. Their tough, aggressive play and extra effort to hustle after the ball on both ends earned the Falcons two points to each of the Indians one. A great hustle play by #4 Michelle Doohan to get the ball and pass it off to the running Casey Silvestri who shot and scored brought the Falcons to within three of the Indians.
With the score now 14-11 and just under nine minutes to go in the game, the Falcons were on the path to victory. Though they continued their strong effort, they could not contain the Indians as they attacked unrelentingly to score six more goals to the Falcons two. Despite the fact that the Indians pulled away in the end, the Falcons proved that they could make any team in the division have to play their best to defeat them. Coach Missy
Holland was very enthusiastic about her team's performance, saying, "Our goalie was injured so it was tough, but the girls really stepped up and played the best game they have all season."
This was the last game in a fun but difficult season for the Falcons. They worked hard this year and improved a lot, however they still have a lot of experience to gain. The talent and dedication is there, as well as great support from Coach Holland.
With such a solid group of girls and the amount of work that they put in outside the team, next season will surely prove to be exciting as the girls continue to gain confidence and experience in the game.
