NYS Foreclosure Relief Van Coming to Rockland County

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) has partnered with the New York State Department of Financial Services to host the Foreclosure Relief Van at Spring Valley Village Hall on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Housing foreclosure specialists will work with Rockland homeowners hit by the foreclosure crisis. Superintendent of the NYS Department of Financial Services Benjamin Lawsky and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern) will also attend to speak with residents about local foreclosure issues.

Housing foreclosure specialists will be on site for Wednesday only with the Mobile Command Center Van to counsel local homeowners on state and federal programs that may be able to keep them in their homes, provide information about loan modification programs and work with homeowners’ mortgage lenders.  Specialists can assess where homeowners are in the pre-foreclosure or foreclosure process and advise them by:

• providing information about specific loan modifications available under federal law.
• directing aggrieved or abused homeowners to programs and agencies which are actively engaged in pursuing claims related to mortgage servicer abuses.

Carlucci's office said residents are encouraged to bring any and all paperwork with them but if they do not have it, the housing foreclosure specialists on site are experts and can deal with them directly.

The Financial Services Department initiated a foreclosure hotline, 1-800-269-0990 or 518-457-1654, open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, homeowners can file complaints on the Department's website. 

The mobile unit’s namesake van equipped with computers and communications systems is traveling to New York communities hit hardest by the foreclosure crisis.  This service is free.
