Olympian Michael Phelps Inspires Condors’ Swimmers
Local coach says entire American swim team motivates young amateurs in New City based swim club.

The Olympic Games always generate lots of enthusiasm among the members of the Condors Swim Club. The London Olympics are no exception with 27-year-old swimmer Michael Phelps winning his record-breaking 19th Olympic Medal on Tuesday. Condors President J.P. Carlucci said the young swimmers in the New City-based club look up to the entire American swim team.
“The kids are always excited to see an American team do well,” he said. “These are our kids’ role models.”

“There’s a little rivalry in our pool,” he said with some swimmers rooting for Phelps and others for his teammate Ryan Lochte. He said they really relate to swimmer Missy Franklin, a 17-year-old high school student.
Carlucci said the Olympic swim team coaches send the right message that hard work counts and the swimmers live up to that.

“There’s not a lot of drama, there’s a lot of happiness (among team members),” he said.
