Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Recruiting Apprentices

NEW CITY, NY - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union No. 21, Zone 1, will conduct a recruitment Dec. 3-14 for 15 plumber and steamfitter apprentices and five refrigeration & air conditioning mechanic apprentices. Applicants must live in Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, or Westchester.

During the short recruitment period for the Plumbers & Steamfitters union, applications must be obtained in person at 1024 McKinley Street, Peekskill, NY, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays.

Applications must be returned in person by 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Local Union # 21. Applicants must pay a non-refundable $10 processing fee by cash or money order. Please note: You may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof of transcript of grades will be required at the time of indenture.
- Must reside (for at least six months prior to application) within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #21, which includes the counties of Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, and Westchester.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction.
- Must pass a substance abuse test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
- Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to starting employment.
- Must take an aptitude test administered by the New York State Department of Labor.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
