Remembering 9/11 In Rockland County
Many ceremonies marking the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are being held virtually this year due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
There are events around the Hudson Valley commemorating the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who died because of illnesses related to the attacks.
Coming up first is the annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is in memory of those Town of Ramapo residents who lost their lives in the 1993 and 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. It will take place Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Rockland County
- Clarkstown: A 9/11 ceremony will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. at Clarkstown Town Hall, 10 Maple Ave., New City. Pandemic protocols will be in place.
- Nanuet: Sept. 10. Fundraiser at the Dawg House for the Tunnels To Towers Foundation. At 6 p.m. Sept. 11 there will be a remembrance ceremony. 17 N. Middletown Road, Nanuet.
- Orangetown: The Town of Orangetown September 11 memorial ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2020 starts at 6 p.m. on the lawn in front of Town Hall, 26 Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962. Remember to bring a mask.
- Ramapo: The annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is in memory of those Town of Ramapo residents who lost their lives in the 1993 and 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
- Rockland County: The county's annual commemoration will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the Rockland 9/11 Memorial, Haverstraw Bay County Park, 21 Gagan Road, Haverstraw. Family members will read the names of the Rockland County victims. Due to pandemic protocols, in-person attendance is limited to family, survivors, first responders and friends, who should plan to arrive by 8:15 a.m. The event will be live streamed on the Rockland County Government Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rocklandgov and will be posted for viewing to the Rockland County Government YouTube page: https://bit.ly/3bmUSAw
- Stony Point: The Town of Stony Point will hold its annual candlelight memorial service at 7.m. Sept. 11. Attendees should follow pandemic protocols. The service will also be viewable via Facebook.
- Suffern: A ceremony will take place at Suffern Village Hall at 7 p.m. Pandemic protocols should be followed.
- West Haverstraw: A candle ceremony to honor those lost on 9/11 will take place at 7:15 p.m. rain or shine. The ceremony will be held at Pecks Pond. Floating candle lanterns are $3 each and the proceeds will go to the Friends of Ashley Nicole Memorial Fund to support students and the community. Attendees are asked to follow pandemic protocols.
Meanwhile, the 10th annual '9/11: Serve + Remember' event in the lower Hudson Valley focuses in 2020 on hunger in honor of those whose lives were lost or forever changed by the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
