Retired New York City Police Detectives Recognizing Legislator Day

"ARDY" Award for outstanding service will be presented on October 12.

New York City Police Department Retired Detectives fraternal organization (RDNY) will recognize Rockland County Legislator Ed Day (R-New City/Pomona) for “outstanding service” to law enforcement, public safety, and community.  Day will receive their highest honor, known as the ARDY award, for outstanding service to the organization, public safety, law enforcement, and community.  It is a bronze bust of a New York City police officer, which will have his name engraved on it.

Day served 22 years with the New York City Police Department, the last five as a detective commander in the Bronx and then with the Baltimore Police Department as the chief of detectives.

“Having your work both acknowledged and remembered by your peers after so many years is very special,” said Day. “When it includes such a prestigious award from an esteemed organization in recognition of that and my continuing work in support of public safety, law enforcement and community, well, that just is a highlight of my career that defies description.”

Outgoing RDNY president Thomas Hyland said Day “more then deserves this award for so very many reasons” for both his past accomplishments as a detective commander in the NYPD and ongoing efforts as a county legislator.  The award ceremony will take place at the RDNY Dinner and general membership meeting on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Eastwood Manor in the Bronx.

RDNY is a registered not-for-profit established in 1955 as a fraternal investigative law enforcement organization.  The mission of RDNY is well described by its motto; “Fideliter Servivimus” – “We Have Served Faithfully.”
