Rockland Boulders Look For Walk-On Player At Open Tryout

New Can-Am league team seeks local talent for baseball team.

Local athletes dreaming of playing professional baseball have a shot of attaining that dream on Saturday when the Rockland Boulders host an open tryout camp.

Dave LaPoint, manager of the new Can-Am League team based at the new stadium being built in Pomona, is promising that the team will take one walk-on player from the tryout for the team's roster.

“We are looking for talent,” said LaPoint.  “I hope we have a good turn out. This is an elimination camp. It is going to be competitive, and if players do not meet our requirements, they will be eliminated on the spot.”

The camp is set for 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah, NJ  — the rainout date is Sunday. Check in is at 9 a.m.

Players must bring their own uniform, glove, cleats, bats, helmets, and all other personal equipment. Players will participate in a variety of basic drills to show their skills, with a scrimmage set for 12:30 p.m.

The shot for a spot on the team costs $100.00, and must be paid in advance through the Boulders’ website. The price includes lunch and two tickets to a Boulders game.

The Boulders are set to have their home opener on June 16 in Pomona, where they are set to face the Brockton Rox.
