Rockland Gymnast Receives Top Scores In Level Six State Meet

Suffern gymnast named 2012 USA Gymnast NYS Level Six

Kyra Lum of Suffern attained top scores in Saturday's 2012 USAG New York State Level 6 State Gymnastics Championship. She represented in Nanuet. Gymnastic competitors from Niagara and Sullivan Counties and New York City gathered in Rockland County on Saturday at Galaxy Gymnastics in Orangeburg to demonstrate their gymnastic talents. 10-year-old Lum won first place on bars, beam, floor and all around. On her floor exercise, she received a 10.0 score, which makes her the only level 6 gymnast in New York to ever get 10.0 on floor. She was declared a 2012 USA Gymnastics NYS Level 6 Champion.

“We are so pleased to get word that a young gymnast from our county has
been recognized as a New York State gymnastics champion,” said Ron
Levine, spokesman for County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef. “The county’s Department of Health, our local school districts, as well as a multitude of private agencies sponsor programs or activities which promote regular physical activity for both young and older individuals. Gymnastics is an especially valuable activity which encourages individuals to develop skills that improve coordination, flexibility and strength.”

May is “National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. This is not Lum’s first triumph in gymnastics. Several months ago she was rated fifth out of 100 competitors in the nation in the latest scoring of America’s Top 100 Level 6 Gymnasts for 2012.
