Salazar Paces Boulders to 7-1 Win!

(RAMAPO, N.Y.) -The Rockland Boulders won their second game in a row against the Lincoln Saltdogs by a score of 7-0 at Provident Bank Park. The Boulders offensive explosion in the third and fourth innings gave the Boulders a big lead early in the game and ultimately would give them their second win against the Saltdogs this season.

The Boulders (31-22) opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third after the Boulder bats exploded. Marcus Nidiffer started things off in the inning with a leadoff single to right and soon enough the bases were loaded with no outs. O’Hare got on base on an error by Saltdog’s second baseman Luis Nunez and Matt Nandin followed with a walk. Antone DeJesus then hit a sacrifice fly to score Nidiffer to give the Boulder’s a 1-0 advantage. Then consecutive singles to right by Ryan Stovall and Jerod Edmondson gave the Boulders a quick 3-0 lead against the Saltdogs (29-30) after the third.

Then, after starter Richard Salazar pitched a 1-2-3 fourth inning for the Boulders, Rockland came back to score four more insurance runs to give them a 7-0 advantage after four innings. Walsh leadoff the inning with a blooper to center for a single and the Boulders got on the board once again after Nidiffer roped a double to deep center field to score Walsh and give the Boulders a 4-0 lead.

The Boulders would score two more runs in the inning after Nandin singled to right field, scoring Nidiffer and Stovall went on to hit a two-run homerun to left to put the Boulder up 7-0 in the ballgame. The Saltdogs would get their lone run late in the game in the top of the ninth after Nunez walked and Omar Luna hit an RBI single to make it a 7-1 ballgame. This would not mean much in the contest since the Boulders already had a seven run cushion.

This would prove to be all the Boulders would need in the outing as Rockland’s pitching proved to be dominant in the contest as well. Salazar (6-2) left the mound after pitching six inning and retiring nine in a row. Salazar only gave up four hits in his outing after pitching six scoreless innings for the Boulders and only walked two.

Saltdog’s starter Nick Green (2-4) took the loss for the Saltdog’s after going through seven innings of work, giving up all seven runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one. Luis Sanz also picked up his first save for the Boulders. Stovall, Walsh, and Nidiffer each had multi-hit games for the Boulders and Stovall also added three RBI in the contest.

The Boulders will look to sweep the Saltdogs tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park.
