Sixth Annual Mary Nagle Tournament Takes the Court At Felix Festa
75 teams compete in the three-day tournament at Barr Middle School, Clarkstown North and Felix Festa
The took place over the weekend, with 75 teams playing three games each during the three-day tournament. The tournament started to honor the memory of Mary Nagle, a New City resident who was murdered in 2005.
The tournament took place in two gyms at Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack, Clarkstown North High School in New City and MacArthur Barr Middle School in Nanuet.
The tournament raises money for the Mary Nagle Charitable Foundation, which helps out families in need, especially those who have lost a child or a parent, according to John Nagle, one of the tournament organizers and Mary Nagle’s brother-in-law. Some of the money raised also goes to two scholarships for kids at St. Augustine’s School who plan on attending Catholic High School.
“It’s a non-competitive tournament, so we don’t keep track of wins or losses,” John Nagle said. “It’s an opportunity for the kids to get some playing time, raise awareness and raise money for the community.”
