Sullivan Denies Charges

Town's Prosecutor Responds

NEW CITY, NY – Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan's lawyer has released the charges against him — and William Harrington, the special prosecutor that will be appointed to prosecute him, had a statement for the press.

The suspension of Sullivan had to do in part with his refusal to immediately remove Sgt. Stephen Cole-Hatchard from his role as director of the Rockland County Strategic Intelligence Unit, according to The Journal News.

Cole-Hatchard has sued the town over his reassignment.

It also has to do with two former officers — one who is alleged to have made political contributions to local Republicans and one who is fighting with the town over disability pay, TJN said. And it has to do with comments made on social media by Sullivan and by the town supervisor's chief of staff.

Sullivan's lawyer Richard Glickel said the charges were "meritless."

Harrington released the following statement in response to Sullivan’s denial of the charges.

“From Police Chiefs to Patrolmen, the rules of conduct that govern a transparent police department apply to everyone. It’s unfortunate Mr. Sullivan believes he is above the law and lives by his own rules."
