
At 9:03 p.m. May 27, State Police responded to a report of an accident on I-87 near Exit 13.
The investigation revealed that a GMC Envoy struck the trailer of a tractor-trailer and fled the scene, prior to breaking down for mechanical issues.
Police concluded the driver of the GMC, Carlos E. Bermeo, 36, of Yonkers, NY, was intoxicated.

He was transported and processed at state police offices in Tarrytown where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.11 percent. Bermeo was subsequently charged with:
- Driving While Intoxicated; a Misdemeanor
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident
- Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Violations
Bermeo was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Clarkstown Court on June 6, 2016 at 9:30 a.m.

The driver of the tractor-trailer pulled over at the troopers' location and was not injured in the collision.
