Umpires Take The Night Off
Members of Rockland ASA Umpires and their families visit Provident Bank Park in an outing that also supports Hank Jaxel Scholarship fund.
There was a baseball game going on, but this time the umpires were just spectators.
Members of the Rockland ASA Umpires and their families recently visited Provident Bank Park in Pomona to watch the Rockland Boulders. The group visit also helped support the Hank Jaxal Scholarship fund, established in 2010 in memory of the Bardonia resident who was the longtime president of Rockland ASA umpires and was also a longtime leader in local youth sports organizations.
For every ticket the umpire group bought, the Boulders made a donation toward the Jaxel scholarship. This summer, ASA umpires raised more than $3,000 for the scholarship at the Hank Jaxal Softball Tournament in Nanuet.

ASA umpires officiate at baseball and softball games throughout Rockland County for a variety of leagues and levels, including local Little League organizations, town-run recreation programs, travel leagues and adult leagues.
During their visit, the umps resisted the temptation to second-guess calls made on the field by the umps for the Can-Am League.
