ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Republican Bill Weber is again seeking election to Rockland's New York State Senate seat.

Though its boundaries haven't moved much, redistricting based on the 2020 Census has changed the number of the local senate district. Rockland County is now in District 40, according to the maps approved by New York's lawmakers and governor.

It's not a done deal: dispute over whether the maps were fairly drawn continues in the courts as the primary approaches with early voting starting June 16. Still, the districts will change based on the population of the state, with NYC gaining representatives.

Most of Rockland County — plus a bite out of Westchester at Ossining — used to be District 38.

Two years ago Weber lost to incumbent Democrat Elijah Reichlin-Melnick in the election for District 38 in a race that came down to absentee ballots. SEE: Weber's Lead Narrows In Senate District 38 Race

"I am looking to use my expertise and knowledge to bring a common sense approach to Albany," Weber said in a news release last week announcing his candidacy. "I have always been a strong advocate and voice for the people. It's natural for me to stand up for what is right, especially in the face of wrongdoings by elected officials and decisions that are harmful to the people. From bail reform, soaring taxes, corruption, and irresponsible budgets to the never-ending mandates and regulations, Albany continues to have its priorities all wrong. I will go to Albany to be a voice for the people in our district."

He threw his hat in officially at an event Friday in New City, where the Weber4Senate campaign headquarters is at 170 S. Main St. Watch the video here.

Weber is a Certified Public Accountant. He has been the CFO of a privately held company since 2000. He is currently the Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 94 in Montebello and Airmont and serves on the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of Rockland and the Rockland County Youth Bureau. He said his financial background is complemented by the professional fields of his close family members including education, nursing, and law enforcement. His brothers have served in the NYPD along with his father, a retired NYPD Lieutenant who is a past-president of the Rockland County Shields.

District 40 used to be parts of Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties. The incumbent of District 40, Peter Harckham, is running for the District 42 seat.
