The West Nyack 10-11 all-star team will compete for a spot in the New York state finals tonight against Massapequa.
Massapequa beat West Nyack, 12-2, on Sunday, giving West Nyack its first loss of the summer after running through the district and unbeaten. The state tournament is hosted by Van Nest Little League in the Bronx.
West Nyack remained in the double elimination tournament with a 7-6 win against Cicero in seven innings to advance to the loser’s bracket semifinals Tuesday night against Burnt Hills.
West Nyack fell behind 6-0 in that one, but came back to win 11-7 thanks to two home runs from Sam Franco, one of which was a grand slam. Danny Alaimo chipped in a two-run homer of his own. Luke Pallogudis added two doubles and three RBIs.
TJ McIvor pitched five innings in the win and Franco closed it out.
The winner of tonight’s game will meet Great Kills in the state final. Great Kills beat Burnt Hills in the semifinal, and the winner of tonight’s West Nyack-Burnt Hills game will have to beat Great Hills twice to win the state title, as Great Hills is undefeated so far.
