Wrong-Way Driver Leads High-Speed Police Chase
The former Newburgh mayoral candidate got off the Thruway in Kingston and then floored it through four towns before police stopped him.

Paul D. Koksvik, a former candidate for mayor in Newburgh, was arrested Wednesday by the New York State Police in Kingston after a wrong-way trip down the New York State Thruway and then a high-speed pursuit.
Reported to be traveling southbound in the northbound lane on Interstate 87, Koksvik exited the Thruway in Kingston onto St-28, state police said.
When cops tried to stop him he fled, speeding west through the Towns of Ulster, Kingston and Hurley into the Town of Olive where he was finally halted by pursuing police.

Koksvik, 53, was taken into custody and charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest and arraigned in Olive town court.
Bail was set at $5,000, according to recordonline.com

The State Police were assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department, the Town of Olive Police and the NYCDEP Police.
Koksvik was endorsed by the Libertarian Party in the Nov. 3 race, though he did not appear on the ballot, according to the Times Herald-Record.
