Cops: Teen Arrested for DWI After Fatal Crash in New Hyde Park
The crash left one man dead, his wife and child injured, police said.

A New Hyde Park teen has been arrested in a fatal New Hyde Park crash late Tuesday night that left a 55-year-old man dead, and the victim’s wife and child injured, authorities said.
Nassau County Police did not release the name of the victim, but said he was driving in a 2012 Ford Fusion with his 38-year-old wife and six-year-old daughter. They were heading south on Covert Avenue approaching the Long Island Railroad tracks, when the car was struck by a 2003 Toyota Camry heading west on Second and Covert Avenues.
The driver of the Ford Fusion suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. His wife, who was found unconscious, and their daughter, who suffered a fractured leg, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police.

The driver of the Camry, Deepak Kumar, 17, was traveling with four other passengers in the car. Kumar was found to be intoxicated, and arrested without incident. He was brought to a nearby hospital for observation. No other injuries were reported, and both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks, police said.
Kumar is charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was scheduled for arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
