Maryland Man Charged in Herricks 'Distraction Burglary'

Frank Nicholas charged with second-degree burglary for Herricks distraction burglary, cops said.

A Maryland man was arrested for posing as a National Grid worker and burglarizing an elderly woman in Herricks, according to Nassau County Police.

Frank Nicholas, 27, of White Marsh, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree burglary, cops said.

On June 20, Nicholas donned a yellow work vest and construction hat, approached a Pine Street home, and told the 79-year-old homeowner he had to check for a gas leak following an explosion, police said.

After the woman let Nicholas inside, he told her to run a faucet and continue to do so in a master bathroom while swiping gold jewelry from a jewelry box, cops said. Read more here.

Two similar burglaries were reported in Syosset on June 19 and in Westbury on June 20. Police have not yet reported any connection between those incidents and Nicholas.

Nicholas will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
