2 Plead Guilty To Series Of Southern Westchester Burglaries

One of the men pleaded guilty just before his trial was set to begin.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two men pleaded guilty to charges related to burglarizing several southern Westchester businesses in the spring and summer of 2017. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Tuesday that Kareem Johnakin, 47, of Behlehem, Pennsylvania, and Patrick Williams, 52, of Brooklyn, admitted they broke into four food markets and a restaurant during the period of May to August 2017 and stole money before leaving the scene.

In four out of the five incidents, the defendants entered the food markets by forcibly pushing up metal roll-down gates and, in most cases, sliding underneath them. In the restaurant burglary, they smashed a glass door to get in, police said.

The locations of the burglaries and the approximate amount of money stolen were as follows:

William pleaded guilty March 7 to five counts of third-degree burglary, felonies. He will be sentenced as a predicate felon May 10, to a maximum sentence of 3.5 to 7 years in state prison on each count.

Johnakin entered his plea just as his jury trial was set to begin Monday. He pleaded guilty third-degree burglary, a felony, and faces 2-1/3 to 7 years in state prison. He will be sentenced July 10.
