Blondes vs. Brunettes(R) Flag Football FUNdraiser in New Rochelle

Alzheimer's Association's second annual flag football fundraiser.

On Saturday, April 25th, the Alzheimer’s Association will hold its second annual flag football FUNdraiser, Blondes vs. Brunettes®, at New Rochelle High School. The gate opens at 1 pm; kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm; and an after-party follows. Blondes vs. Brunettes is a volunteer-driven active event for women that that brings the passion and spirit of young community leaders together to support the Alzheimer’s Association. The event concept is organized around a flag football game in which the two participating teams are divided based on the age-old rivalry between blondes and brunettes.

Blondes vs. Brunettes® was created in the fall of 2005 by a group of young professional women in Washington, D.C., led by Sara Abbott. Her sister, Kate Stukenberg, soon grew the game to Texas. The founders had a personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease and designed the event to raise awareness among their peers while also raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Since that inaugural game in Washington D.C., the event has successfully branched out to more than 35 additional cities, raising more than $3 million and bringing thousands of new supporters to the cause.

Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million Americans. It is the sixth leading cause of death among American adults and eventually renders its victims totally incapable of caring for themselves. Funds raised at the event support research and expert resources, such as a 24-hour Helpline, support groups, educational programs, and care consultations for the more than 40,000 families who are coping with Alzheimer’s disease in our Chapter’s territory.
