In
 1907, a Jewish immigrant named Joel Russ landed in New York City, where
 he took a pushcart of herring and built a legendary destination for 
Jewish appetizing that would pass down through his family for more than a
 hundred years. Four generations later, the ancestral heart of Russ 
&amp; Daughters continues to thrive on the Lower East Side, with three 
more locations throughout the city.Encompassing history, tradition, and delicious food, Russ &amp; Daughters: 100 Years of Appetizing
 shares insider anecdotes from the family and characters on both sides 
of the counter. The cookbook includes guides to its most famed 
offerings—smoked salmon, sable, sturgeon, herring, and caviar—plus over 
100 recipes for latkes, matzo ball soup, babka, and bagels, among other 
favorites.
Cousins Niki Russ Federman and Josh Russ Tupper are co-owners of Russ &amp; Daughters and will be in conversation with local chef and writer Danielle Colen.

Artists' Reception: Soft Geometry at The Idea Kitchen

Join us for an evening exploring themes of family and identity. Nicole Lipson, author of Mothers and Other Fictional Characters, and Susan Dominus, author of&nbsp;The Family Dynamic, will discuss how family relationships shape our paths in life.
We’ll begin with a Many Selves collage activity, inviting participants to reflect on the different roles they inhabit: parent, child, friend, professional, and others. The activity draws on themes from Lipson’s essays about motherhood and identity and Dominus’s exploration of how siblings growing up in the same family can follow very different paths. In the ensuing discussion, we’ll&nbsp;consider how family expectations, relationships, and experiences influence the stories we tell about ourselves.&nbsp;
All materials will be provided. No artistic experience is necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to explore the many selves we all carry!

&nbsp;A commemoration of Memorial Day, beginning with an 11 am ceremony in the church, and followed by a tour, with flowers and flags, of the historic cemetery, exploring the lives and services of many of the veterans buried at the site. We will present special honors to Major Charles Turnbull who served in the artillery of the Continental Army during the revolutionary War.
