Our Many Selves: Family, Identity, and the Stories That Shape Us | Book Talk
Join us for an evening exploring themes of family and identity. Nicole Lipson, author of Mothers and Other Fictional Characters, and Susan Dominus, author of The Family Dynamic, will discuss how family relationships shape our paths in life.
We’ll begin with a Many Selves collage activity, inviting participants to reflect on the different roles they inhabit: parent, child, friend, professional, and others. The activity draws on themes from Lipson’s essays about motherhood and identity and Dominus’s exploration of how siblings growing up in the same family can follow very different paths. In the ensuing discussion, we’ll consider how family expectations, relationships, and experiences influence the stories we tell about ourselves.
All materials will be provided. No artistic experience is necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to explore the many selves we all carry!
