With the race to the New York presidential primary in the home stretch, former senator and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finds herself with a “strong lead” over rival Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
The NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll released Friday has Clinton up 17 percentage points over Sanders. That is up 3 points from the previous poll.
The poll, which interviewed likely New York Democratic primary votes, gave Clinton 57 percent of the vote to Sanders’ 40 percent.
That put Clinton with a 2 point increase from the previous poll. Sanders went down 1 point.
Despite the increase, to Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, there hasn’t been much variation.
“As the primary approaches, the back and forth between Clinton and Sanders hasn’t changed the New York contest for the Democrats in the last few days,” he said.
On the Republican side, the Hudson Valley is bracing for the rally Sunday in Poughkeepsie for real estate mogul and reality television star Donald J. Trump.
While the campaign event is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, the Trump campaign still has not made tickets available for it on its website.
The Poughkeepsie Journal said Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison is expecting a large crowd to turnout and is urging people to carpool or take Metro-North to get to the rally.
New Yorkers will head to polls Tuesday, April 19 for both the Democratic and Republican primaries.
