County Legislator Maher Announces Bid For New Rochelle Mayor

Longtime incumbent Noam Bramson announced in November that he would not seek reelection to the city's highest elected office.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A candidate with name recognition has entered what promises to be a crowded race to replace longtime New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson.

County Legislator Damon Maher announced his intention to run for New Rochelle's top job in a social media post on Tuesday morning.

"I am seeking the Democratic nomination for New Rochelle mayor," Maher wrote in the Jan. 17 Facebook post. "I believe I'm the best candidate to represent all of New Rochelle."

Bramson said in November that he would not seek reelection to the position he has held for nearly two decades. Earlier this month, Maher that he would not be seeking reelection as the Westchester County legislator representing New Rochelle, Eastchester and Tuckahoe.

Maher was born and raised in Westchester. He was born in Yonkers, and has lived in Hastings-on-Hudson, West Harrison and Larchmont. He has called New Rochelle home since the mid-90s . He is a managing partner in a small law firm known for its work on workers rights.

Maher earned his undergraduate degree from Yale and his law degree from Fordham.

In addition to representing New Rochelle in the Westchester County Board of Legislators, Maher has served on the boards of the New Rochelle Bar Association, NewRo Runners, New Rochelle Public Library, Westchester Foster & Adoptive Families and the Youth Soccer of New Rochelle Travel Division.

Now all the Maher for Mayor campaign needs to do is come up with a catchy campaign slogan.
