Couple Hawking Fake Jewelry, 'Winning' Lotto Tickets In New Rochelle

New Rochelle police issued a scam alert. Look out for a duo using a few of the oldest tricks in the book to dupe people in the community.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police say that confidence tricks that seem to be taking a page from history are making something of a comeback locally.

The New Rochelle Police Department posted about a scam alert Friday afternoon.

They said they are investigating multiple reports of scams where a Hispanic man and woman approach people and tell them they are selling jewelry due to financial hardships. They have also been reported to be selling "winning lottery tickets."

They also caution to not exchange cash for "winning" lottery tickets from individuals who claim that they cannot claim the prize money due to immigration status.

In addition, police advise to not pre-pay for services or goods found on Facebook marketplace or similar websites.

In the photo distributed by police, one of the individuals is described as being 5'6", weighing 200 lb, with black hair and brown eyes. If this person is seen, call 914-654-2300.
